The beautiful town Koblenz is situated in the North of the charming German federal state Rhineland-Palatinate, directly at the so-called Deutschen Eck, where the rivers Moselle and Rhine are flowing together. The city is proud on having a very long history, in 1992 its inhabitants celebrated its 2000-years of existence. As a matter of fact, some parts of the venerable city have already been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. Besides its several antique cultural sights, Koblenz also impresses with its marvelous parks and nature reserves. In 2011, the city already hosted the first Bundesgartenschau (National Garden Show) of Rhineland-Palatinate ever.

The lovely city offers its visitors a wealth of spectacular highlights, such as the impressive Ehrenbreitstein Fortress on the likewise named mountain from the 16. Century. The honourable building provides among others the Koblenz State Museum and a popular youth hostel. Another attractive sight of the town is for example the Basilica St. Kastor, the oldest church of Koblenz. The sacred building was consecreated in the year 836 and has become the scene of important historical events over the centuries. Over the year, this city offers a tremendous bunch of attractive events worth a visit or two. In the summertime, the Koblenz Gartenkultur (Koblenz Garden Culture) is a fantastic highlight for nature lovers. The event series has its origins in the National Garden Show 2011 and offers a various program including live music, lectures and sports activities in the gardens and parks of the city. Fans of heavenly voices will love the RheinVokal Festival, an international music event focusing on singing. In autumn, the enchanting Koblenzer Weinfest (Koblenz Wine Festival) internationally attracts wine connoisseurs with an affinity for Moselle wines. At the end of the year, as a matter of fact, the lovely Koblenz Christmas market located at six pleasant old town places is absolutely worth being seen. More than 300 000 visitors are enjoying the festive atmosphere of the market every year.

You won´t be surprised – Koblenz provides a lot of gastronomical highlights, too. Wine enthusiasts will enjoy local wines such as a sparkling Riesling or a fruity Dornfelder. Regional vineyards are offering wine tastings, cosy wine bars serve certain wines of the region. And what about visiting a so-called Straußenwirtschaft? These small wine taverns are directly runned by winemakers, the glass of wine is normally accompanied by a small side dish. The Straußenwirtschaft is looking back on a tradition of more than 1000 years. If you are longing for a typical food speciality, you should visit the local bakeries offering a huge variety of breads and rolls. Deliciously and generously topped sandwiches such as the Schnittcher or the egg-baked Gelleschnitte are a popular meal in Koblenz.
